stephen minister voted "best healing and wellness practitioner" in 2010 omega institute for holistic studies mindfulness for educators workshop with dr. jon kabat-zinn | biography i believe in God. i believe in spirit. i believe in the power of massage, aromatherapy and minfulness. there are many techniques that have the ability to heal... to heal your body and your mind and allow you to "feel" your spirit. i am certain of this... we all have issues in our lives we are dealing with. no matter our age, our professional security (or lack of), family, health, history, etc.. i learned it as "we are all suffering our own illness". while that first appears to be health related it is not. it's simply all the "stuff" that makes us each unique. some good some bad, some achievements and some mistakes, some losses and some gains. question yourself... when is the last time you allowed yourself some time for peace? healing is a matter of time, but it is also a matter of opportunity. - hippocrates father of western medicine i am happy to share a few of the paths my life has taken to mold me into the person i am today... and to this company called retreat. having achieved early success in the corporate world - selling telephony worldwide. i left in 1999 after the birth of my first child, jack. a delivery that was not at all what i anticipated (c-section, general anesthia, no husband allowed in the room and no "it's a boy" moment, instead memories of anesthia wearing off way too early). i knew it was up to me to better prepare myself when my second delivery was upon me. i enlisted the help of a doula, an aromatherapist and i allowed massage to become a necessity. i read affirmations and practiced imagery day and night. it is not only the outcome (laboring at home with natural childbirth in the hospital (a girl by the way... chloe)) that catapulted me to today but more the people that helped get me there. as first recognized by my ethics professor, these people were probably the main reason i had decided to become a massage therapist myself. i am proud of the school i attended, national university of health sciences. a very medically based program with the gift of a large human cadaver lab, allowing a visual and hands on association of muscles, ligaments and tendons. an understanding and appreciation for the human body that would have been impossible without. the teachings i received surpassed textbooks. teachings in qi gong connected what i had been "feeling" into words and laid the ground work for my passion into eastern philosophies. i expect and embrace a lifelong commitment to the healing arts. i believe we all become overworked, stressed out and unhappy all too often. we need to give ourselves a little more understanding to flourish. our bodies are so remarkable... they do send us signals - we just often choose to ignore them. "a great time to relax is when you don't have time for it" -sydney harris please keep in mind that massage therapists can be very different... that is part of the beauty. training, energy, environment and pricing can vary widely. may you find a therapist you love - that's the way it should be. "let the beauty we love be what we do" - rumi exemplary therapeutic massage awaits you at retreat. peace, lisa patterson retreat massage |
